Notices for Sunday, 8 October 2017
Thursday Lunchtime Talks start in St Giles’ Church, on Thursday 12 October at 12:30pm. The theme is Building Community, beginning with The Dynamics and Psychology of Building Community – Speaker: Anne Holmes. During the series we will be looking at how communities are formed, maintained or destroyed in a variety of different circumstances. This promises to be a fascinating set of talks, giving us insights from present (Grenfell Tower) and past (Indian Partition) and local situations. See the poster for full details of all the talks.
Saturday 14 October in, 7:30pm in St. Giles’: David Gordon Trio speaks Latin jazz concert. Tickets: £15/£12/£5. See leaflets for full details of all the Concerts.
MOET: The container arrived and all the goods were delivered intact. We were sent a couple of photographs showing some of the children with the newly arrived boxes and the following letter from Patterson Majonanga, the director:
“On behalf of Orphans and Vulnerable Children from Mangochi Orphans Education and Training (MOET), I am writing to acknowledge receipt of parcels sent to MOET. Please receive my sincere appreciation of such timely support to our children which is going to improve their various needs. Such support motivates and makes them concentrate to their education.
“We will make sure that this achieves the intended purpose.
We will do the same next year. They are looking for clothes for teenagers as well as for younger children so if you have any to dispose of during the year please think of MOET. Samantha Schad / James Fairbairn
The Gatehouse is appealing for donations for Christmas presents for the homeless and vulnerably housed again this year. We hope for new donations of underpants (90% of users are male) socks, hats, gloves, scarves and bars of chocolate. This means that hopefully we will be able to give each user of the project at least one Christmas present in 2017 (we are currently averaging 385 visits a week).
The Gatehouse’s community Christmas present wrapping event is due to be held on Wednesday 20 December 11:00am-3:00pm at St Giles Parish Rooms, 10 Woodstock Road, Oxford OX2 6HT. Everyone is welcome, including children (with a responsible adult). No need to book, just turn up to help! Donations can be delivered to the same address between 4:00-7:00pm Monday-Friday and 3:00-6:00pm on Sunday.
Thank you in anticipation of your support, the project really couldn’t operate without the support of the community.
Sacristan teams: both the Sunday morning services’ (8:00am & 10:30am) sacristan teams are looking for someone to join them. For more details contact Tom Albinson.
