The prominent calvary facing the junction of St Margaret’s Road and Kingston Road was designed to be the Parish War Memorial, and is not a reflection of the worship you will encounter inside St Margaret’s Church, although we do hold our Act of Remembrance by it each year. It was patterned on the many shrines encountered by British troops in Flanders during the First World War, some of which were the only thing left standing amongst the ruins of war.

The War Memorial has its own website.

There is also a noticeboard beside the memorial that gives information about those commemorated. At present it displays photos of all those of St Margaret’s parish who died in the First World War (1914-18).
