Notices for Sunday, 11 March 2018
After the Parish Eucharist today there will be a sale of Marmalade, Jam and Jellies as well as other edible goodies. As we give thanks for our own families it seems right that we also think of less fortunate families and so half the proceeds from today’s sale will go to Christian Aid’s Syria Appeal to help families stuck in refugee camps or trapped by constant bombardment and fighting. Please use this opportunity to show your concern and support in a practical way.
There are two Lent Groups taking place this Lent: Tuesdays at 8:00pm at the Vicarage, contact Andrew; Thursdays contact Tom Albinson for more details – email@example.com. Come for the weeks you can.
Holy Week 2018 is going to be a special time for the Benefice, as Angela Tilby is coming to be our guest preacher throughout Holy Week. So please put 25 March to 1 April in your diary. There will be our regular pattern of services and this will include a set of meditations on Good Friday. Angela has chosen the title for this series of talks to be “The end of God.”
Following our tradition at St Margaret’s, we invite people to make a donation towards the Easter lilies in memory of loved ones. The suggested donation is £5 for a name. Please write the name(s) clearly on an envelope with the donation in cash inside, and give the envelope to Michèle this Sunday (Mothering Sunday) or next Sunday, 18 March. A list of the names of those remembered in this way will be displayed during the Easter season. Please contact Michele on 01865 558983 or firstname.lastname@example.org if you would like further information.
The annual revision of the Electoral Roll must be completed by 6 April (Friday in Easter Week). The Roll is a list of adult members of St Margaret’s. Minimum age is 16, but anyone who will become 16 by April 2019 is eligible. The current Electoral Roll (including changes since April 2017) is on display in the porch, and next to it are a good number of simple application forms for inclusion in the new Roll. Please check that your name (correctly spelled!) is on the list, let me know of any mistakes, and, if you are not on the Roll and would like to be, fill in a form and pass it to me or one of our clergy. It’s important that we have an accurate picture of our church membership, so please do join in! David Smith, Electoral Roll Officer.
Would you be prepared to help with catering at St. Margaret’s social events? We are drawing together a network of volunteers – please see the notice on the board at the back of church and think about whether you would like to get involved. There are forms for volunteers or speak to Kathryn, Michèle or Samantha.
It would be wonderful to have a few more people to lead prayers and do readings at the 10:30 service at St Margaret’s and, in particular, to help serve coffee afterwards. Any frequency/degree of commitment is fine, even if you only want to join in a couple of times a year – every little helps! None of these duties are complicated but full instructions provided if required. Please contact Frances Bagnall-Oakeley: email@example.com. Thank you!
St Margaret’s will be holding its Annual Parochial Church Meeting (including the election of Church Wardens) on Sunday 22 April 2018 after the Parish Eucharist. This is a great opportunity for people to hear more about the work of St Margaret’s and for people on the electoral roll to be involved in the election of Church Wardens and new PCC members and Deanery Synod Representatives. If anyone is interested in joining the PCC, then please speak to Tom Albinson or Andrew Bunch. We are also looking for two new Deanery Synod Representatives. Similarly, if you are interested, please speak to Tom or Andrew.
