Charities at St Margaret’s

Back in the warmth of June, the newly formed Community and Social Action Group met. Part of what they look at was charities and giving from St Margaret’s, as the PCC is no longer able to make larger donations to four charities chosen on a regular basis.

The group had a good discussion about what a new way of engagement around giving might look like at St Margaret’s and it was decided that a new charity should be chosen for each academic term (not including Christmas as this would be a separate opportunity to raise money). This Community and Social Action group would then facilitate our church community to put on events or give opportunities for giving around a specifically chosen chosen charity for that limited time.

As the teen discussion group had already been quite engaged that term about which type of charity they would like to see St Margaret’s support, the Community and Social Action Group decided to ask our young people (via google poll) to choose the charity for Michelmas 2022.

Our young people chose the Anthony Kennedy Trust. This UK registered charity supports lgbtq+ young people aged 16-25 in the UK who are facing or experiencing homelessness or living in a hostile environment. You can find out more information about their history and how they help here: www.akt.org.uk

So our first opportunity to raise some money for this worthwhile cause is this coming Sunday 18th September at 3pm in St Margaret’s at the Music with Friends Concert. We’ll be performing music for choir and orchestra by Handel, Elgar, Vaughan Williams and Parry. There will even be the opportunity to sing along! Lots of members of the congregation are taking part, young and old, with some friends from the wider community and the retiring collection will be for akt. Everyone is welcome so do please join us!
