Every year, covid allowing, friends from in and around St Margaret’s Church join together to remembering Anthony Aston Smith through an informal afternoon of music-making.
This was my first year attending the concert and it was a wonderful way to spend a September afternoon. Acknowledging the somber season that we found ourselves in, the concert began with the hymn “The Lord’s My Shepherd” to the tune Crimond which was a particular favourite of the late Queen Elizabeth II.
The choir and orchestra then continued by performing music by Handel, Elgar, Vaughan Williams and Parry. All directed by Joe Barber.
Special mention must go to Sam Schad who literally orchestrated the whole event [pun intended]! From cakes to seating, she did it all and has our gratitude.
The retiring collection was in aid of our chosen charity for Michelmas term, akt, and we raised £87:50! Thanks to all who gave their time and donations to this event.
